Protein Application Engineer

Veos (www.veos-group.com) was founded in 1974 and is headquartered in Zwevezele, Belgium. We are a global player in the animal protein market and have satisfied customers in more than 90 countries. We recently started producing sustainable plant-based mycoproteins (www.naplasol.com).

Today we are looking for a Protein Application Engineer to strengthen our R&D team and in this way to further support our growth.

Main Responsibilities:

As a Protein Application Engineer you are responsible for executing and supervising development projects that arise from customer questions from international food processing companies (active in meat, plant-based, dairy,...). In addition, you manage the pilot plant in Zwevezele and you also work proactively with the creation of new recipes with our range of proteins.

Your tasks:

  • You have a (pro) active role in product innovation projects and the creation of concepts as a result of customer visits by our Sales Managers and in consultation with the Commercial Director;
  • You advise and guide the customer (whether or not remotely) in the use of our proteins in their production process and support them in the further optimization of the recipe of their end product;
  • To this end you characterize samples of raw materials, manufactures and end products;
  • You personally perform the necessary tests in the application center and provide the necessary demo products for customers where necessary;
  • You organize seminars for customers in consultation with the Commercial Director;
  • You are able to clearly document and explain your analysis results, to work out proposals for improvement or developments in consultation with the Sales Managers so that an individualized solution can be obtained for the customer;
  • In addition to your own projects, you consult with (cross-site) departments or functions regarding proposals and corrective actions in case of nonconformity, which are made in response to customer products;
  • You participate in fairs, seminars and sales meetings to keep in touch with the most recent product developments on the market, legislation, nutritional labelling, etc.;
  • You are responsible for the application center in Zwevezele and its management.

Your profile:

  • You think out of the box
  • You have a master's degree in bioengineering or a bachelor's degree in applied food sciences;
  • Min. 5 years of work experience in the food industry (or related);
  • Demonstrates strong technical knowledge in the functionality of food ingredients and/or meat (processing) science/technology;
  • Knowledge of meat is a plus;
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills in English, including the ability to communicate technical information effectively to all levels of the organization;
  • You have a practical attitude with the necessary accuracy, like a challenge and like to take initiative
  • Able to travel 10% of the time (worldwide);
